Case Study // Skateraw Sand and Gravel Quarry
Planning Application and Environmental Statement
The quarry is located on a Greenfield site in the coastal corridor of the county of East Lothian.
The project is to extract 0.5 million tonnes of sand and gravel over 6.5 years to supply the Edinburgh market and an adjacent landfill site.
Due to the site's location extensive archaeological studies had to be carried out together with extensive landscape planting both within the site and beyond its boundary. The project will assist in the development of an educational trust and art gallery which are programmed for the future, enhancing the whole area.
The application comprised a non technical summary, planning application and supporting statement, environmental statement and environmental appendices.
When restored the site will comprise farmland with public access to ponds with wildlife habitats, footpaths designed to allow the disabled to have access and on site parking.
